Clavell Signs With Dallas
The 2017 Mountain West Player of the Year, Gian Clavell, is getting a shot to live his NBA dream. Clavell signed with the Dallas Mavericks this past week after playing for the Miami Heat during the NBA Summer League.
The Colorado State Rams alum averaged 20 points per game a year ago to go along with his and 6 rebounds. In his five games with the Miami Heat in the NBA Summer League, Clavell averaged only 5.8 points per game but did score 20 points in 27 minutes while leading the Heat to a 91-84 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Despite his scoring ability and tenacious defense, Clavell went undrafted in the years NBA draft. Clavell missed the Rams first nine game due to an off the court issue but when he did return he provided the Rams with a much need outside shooting threat. He scored in double figures in every Mountain West conference game and went over 30 points four times while leading the Rams to an NIT berth.
While Clavell may be seen as a ‘camp body’ he does have a solid chance to play with the Mavericks G-League team the Texas Legends. If he plays well he could end up earning a two-way contract which means that he can split time between the Legends and the Mavericks without counting against the Mavericks 15-man roster.
