One Reason Why NC Central Will Win

The Eagles have a defense.

The defending MEAC champs return seven starters from one of the nation’s top FCS Ds, starting with pass rushing terror Antonio Brown at one end.

This is an active, quick group that camps out in the backfield, finishing sixth in the nation in tackles for loss last season and with many of the key parts back.

Against an okay Duke line that struggled to get the ground game going and loses a few starters, the Eagles will win their share of battles.

One Reason Why Duke Will Win

That NC Central defense that was so great last year got ripped apart by the  Blue Devils in a 49-6 loss and got hit for 70 by Western Michigan. Meanwhile, the Eagle offense is undergoing a bit of an overhaul.

The game will be about Duke trying to find the offensive firepower to do a little of everything right. It’s a tune-up for Northwestern – the ground game has to prove it can establish its will, and QB Daniel Jones has to come out hot.

There won’t be any problems slowing down the NC Central offense, and facing a decent defense is a plus to try experimenting a bit. QB Daniel Jones should be efficient and effective keeping the chains moving, but as long as the O line comes together and starts blasting away, the scrimmage will be effective.

What’s Going To Happen

There won’t be any problems for the Blue Devils, mainly because the defense will look great.

The Eagles will do just enough defensively to keep this from getting out of hand early, but too many drives will stall. This will be uglier than last year’s blowout win if Duke wants it to be, but it’ll pull up in the fourth quarter.
