Colorado (0-0) vs. Colorado State (1-0) Game Preview
Well this just got a whole lot more interesting.
Colorado vs. Colorado State is already among the nation’s most under-appreciated angry rivalries, and after the Buffs rolled 44-7 in last year’s meeting and winning three of the last four in the series, there’s already an edge.
But after Colorado State came out roaring with a 58-27 blasting of Oregon State, now it’s about the Pac-12’s pride, too.
It wasn’t just that the Rams blew out a Power Five program last week in the opener; it’s that they were more physical, tougher, and just plain better than the Beavers.
This was supposed to be a CSU team full of flash and fun, but it blasted away on Oregon State and got a good all-around game under its belt.
With Abilene Christian up next, the Rams can start 3-0 before going to Alabama with a win in Denver, while Colorado will be 3-0 win a victory – Texas State and Northern Colorado are up next – before starting out Pac-12 play against Washington.
One Reason Why Colorado Will Win
Oregon State actually ran well on the Rams – averaging over five yards per carry – and moved the offense just fine, hitting on 10-of-16 third down plays. But the Beavers couldn’t stop giving the Colorado State defense the ball with five turnovers.
There might be new parts, but Colorado was great last season when kept the chains moving, and only struggled when it didn’t.
If new starting quarterback Steven Montez is effective – and he doesn’t start giving the ball away like OSU’s Jake Luton did – the Buff attack will hit the Colorado State secondary hard.
One Reason Why Colorado State Will Win
Can Colorado be physical enough right away? This is where the one game of action will help Colorado State – it’s been able to get in the live action to be ready to pop immediately. With eight of the top 11 tacklers needing to be replaced, the Buffs D might need a little bit of time.
After Nick Stevens hit Oregon State for 334 yards and three touchdowns, it might be a tough day, also, for a rebuilt Colorado secondary that loses three starters. Michael Gallup is coming off an 11-catch, 134-yard performance, but he’s not the team’s only weapon.
What’s Going To Happen
Get ready for a whole lot of fun, and a whole lot of intensity.
Colorado’s offense will be fantastic. Montez will be outstanding, Phillip Lindsay will run for over 100 yards, and Colorado State’s defense will be on its heels all game long.
But the Ram offense will be fantastic, too.
Once again, it’ll be tough, balanced, and with a big attitude as it pulls off its second Pac-12 win in two weeks.
Expect a firefight that goes down to the wire – the Rams will win on their final drive.
