The NCAA released its annual report of the Academic Progress Rate, or APR, measuring the improvements and academic success for the 2015-2016 school year.
And why do you care about this? Besides merely being interested in knowing how each football school is doing and progressing in the classroom, it could mean a great deal when it comes to filling out the bowl matchups.
If there aren’t enough teams that finish with a bowl-eligible six wins – like Mississippi State and North Texas last season, and Nebraska, Minnesota and San Jose State the year before – the teams that finish 5-7 are allowed to be taken based on the APR ranking below.
So remember/save/bookmark this list – you’ll care come late November/early December.
But beyond all of that, which football schools are doing the best job and lead the rankings where it supposedly really matters?
Taken from the NCAA, the APR is calculated as follows:
- Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.
- A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.
- In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.
