All You Really Need To Know About Bucknell

(Patriot) RPI: 63, 13 seed

The Bison ripped through the back half of the season and dominated the Patriot League with a high-powered offense and aggressive backcourt. There’s firepower, good ball movement, and decent fight on the boards, but can they hold up against size?

They can’t hit free throws, but they spread the ball around well enough with four starters averaging in double-figures and everyone taking turns. If they can hit the threes, watch out.

All You Really Need To Know About West Virginia

(Big 12) RPI: 24, 4 seed

There might have been problems trying to slow down Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship, but that was an aberration for a team with a dominant defense that leads the nation in steals and turnover margin. The Mountaineers usually crush teams on the perimeter on both sides of the court, moving the ball well, making the extra pass, and suffocating offenses before they can get started.

As good as they are, though, they’ve been in way too many fights, partly because they can’t hit free throws to put games away. When they’re on though, they can beat anyone – rocking Kansas 85-69.

What’s Going To Happen

The Mountaineers don’t seem to make anything easy, but they’re overdue for a brilliant performance.

Bucknell was good enough to beat Vanderbilt early in the season, and no one in the Patriot came close to touching them late. If the threes are falling, the Bison might be just dangerous enough to keep this from ever getting ugly.

However, against Iowa State, West Virginia looked like a team in need of a little bit of a break. If it can find that extra gear it had at home throughout the year, it’ll get out alive – even if free throw issues make it harder than it needs to be.
