What’s the deal with Kansas?
The word you continue to look for with this Kansas team in the NCAA Tournament is yeeeeeeeesh.
If this isn’t the national champion, it’s doing a great impersonation of one.
The Jayhawks have won their first three NCAA Tournament games by an average of 96-66. That’s pretty good.
Purdue won the Big Ten regular season championship, and it got its doors blown off in the second half in a 98-66 loss. The Boilermakers hit 43% from the field, and it just didn’t matter thanks to a Jayhawks offense that nailed 15-of-28 from three and connected on 55% from the field. Devonte Graham and Frank Mason each came up with 26 points.
What’s the deal with Oregon?
It’s a bit simplistic to suggest that Oregon has somehow gotten better with Chris Boucher hurt – in a pick up the slack sort of way – but the offense found itself against Michigan with four players in double-digits in the 69-68 win. Forgetting that the D almost made a massive mistake late – not fouling and letting the Wolverines get a final shot off – it was a great win over the red-hot Big Ten Tournament champs.
To beat Kansas, the Ducks have to turn up the firepower even more. They have to shoot 47% from three again like they did against the Wolverines. They have to win the rebounding margin, and they have to overcome a bad free throw shooting day, connecting on just 9-of-16 tries.
What’s Going To Happen
Oregon has the pop and the shooting from the outside to keep up the pace for a while, but Kansas is playing at a whole other level. Combine the confidence, the attitude, and the home game in Kansas City, and it’ll be on to the Final Four with yet another amazing performance.
Expect lots of scoring, lots of runs, and a wild game for about 30 minutes. The Jayhawks will own the last ten.
