All You Really Need To Know About Kansas State

(Big 12), RPI: 57, 11 seed

The bubble of all bubble teams, Bruce Weber’s Wildcats are able to defend, they’re able to move the ball, and they’re able to play tight defense. While they struggle to score, are just okay from three, can’t hit free throws, and can’t rebound a lick, they’re able to attack the ball and force a ton of mistakes – they’re plucky.

Awful down the stretch with a run of eight losses in ten games, they picked it back up in March, including a win over Baylor in the Big 12 tournament and a nice performance in a loss to West Virginia. Now they have to muck it up to move on.

All You Really Need To Know About Wake Forest

(ACC), RPI: 39, 11 seed

A hot late stretch – with wins over Pitt, Louisville and Virginia Tech – was enough to get past a rocky 2017 run in conference play. The Demon Deacons can score and score some more, doing a great job of hitting from three and making just about everything on the line.

They pass well, are great on the boards, and have a nice inside presence on both ends of the court. However, they turn the ball over too much, don’t force enough errors, and give up too many easy baskets. They have to win in a firefight, but they’ve got the offense to do it.

What’s Going To Happen

Do you like the tough defense that slows things down to a crawl, or the team that can bomb its way out of problems? As a frame of reference, Kansas State isn’t Virginia, but the Cavaliers slowed things down in a mid-season game, and Wake Forest was absolutely creamed. If the Demon Deacons get up early, it’s over, go home, drive carefully, but the Wildcats have a way to get teams to play at their level. They were able to hang tough with the Big 12’s better teams – they can shoot threes, too.
