All You Really Need To Know About Florida State
Florida State survived the dangerous Florida Gulf Coast game in an 86-80 dogfight. It was an unrelenting battle the Noles got by thanks to a 46 to 26 rebound margin and a big 25 point day from Dwayne Bacon. The problem, though, was on the free throw line, hitting just 24-of-39 tries to keep FGCU in the game. It didn’t help that they hit just 2-of-13 from three.
Awful all season on the line and from three, FSU has to get to the rim and hit every midrange shot. Mostly, it has to rely on a defense that owns the interior and comes up with over five blocked shots a game. If the Noles hit anything from the outside, they’re unstoppable.
All You Really Need To Know About Xavier
The Musketeers roared past Maryland 76-65 with a huge second half to move on. They got the job done on the boards 34-24, and they got hot at the right time to pull away with Trevon Bluiett hitting 5-of-10 from three.
Do they have the interior presence to battle with the Seminoles if the outside shot isn’t falling? This isn’t a good shooting team from three, and free throws are too much of a problem. The defensive pressure could be an issue, too, with way too many turnovers this year.
What’s Going To Happen
Florida State will turn up the heat, forcing mistake after mistake and capitalizing on the easy shots. Neither team shoots well from the outside, and the Noles are better in the interior. However, the Musketeers will stay alive on the boards.
