All You Really Need To Know About Florida State
(ACC) RPI: 14, 3 seed
An aggressive defensive team that’s tough inside, great at taking the ball away, and terrific at finishing, with Jonathan Isaac and Terance Mann two good ones on the boards and each hitting over half of their shots. The Noles can’t hit free throws and they don’t do too much from the outside, but they’re always going to play tough. Inconsistent, but tough.
While they can hang around in shootouts, and they average 83 points per game, the defense creates the opportunities.
All You Really Need To Know About Florida Gulf Coast
(Atlantic Sun) RPI: 85, 14 seed
The Eagles have a balanced attack with four scorers around Brandon Goodwin, a dangerous guard who does a little of everything for the attack. They’re able to attack the glass from all angles and they’re terrific at scoring inside from Demetris Morant – he’s a problem.
But there’s little to nothing coming from three, with the tempo needing to stay high to keep the pressure on. Expect shootouts, lots of ball movement, and lots of really, really annoying second chance points.
What’s Going To Happen
It’ll be a spirited battle in Orlando between two schools whose fan bases will show up. FGCU is playing the wrong team, though, for the upset, since Florida State is strong enough on the inside to take away the plucky rebounding advantage.
Neither team can shoot from the outside, and the Seminoles’ defense is better overall. But the Eagles are going to be a tough out – it’ll take a while to pull away
