Hard not to be impressed with what Clemson did to OSU’s run offense – there were stretches late in the second half where the Buckeyes hadn’t even reached double digit rushing yardage for the game. And if not for Samuel’s 64 yard scamper in garbage time, tOSU ends with 24 yards on 22 carries. Yuck and yuck. But this game will come down to Bama’s defense against Watson, and while Watson has improved with the season, this is the best defense we’ve seen under Nick Saban. Ever. Better than the Bama 2011 defense. Better than the LSU 2003 defense. The Tide will score just enough on offense, and once on defense, and that’ll be the difference … Bama by 7

Phil Harrison

I know the play here for most is to go with the Tide. It has NFL players littered throughout the roster, and yeah, that defense …

But, Dabo Swinney seems to have the Tigers on a mission. They are playing loose and fast, and Deshaun Watson will be able to crack the code against the ‘Bama D with his ability to keep plays alive, much like last year.

This time though, it’ll be enough against an Alabama offense that won’t be able to trade blow for blow … Clemson 35, Alabama 32

Jeremy Simon

While this is the best matchup college football has to offer the Tide, Clemson simply does not have the offense to outscore Alabama. This will be a lower scoring game with defense being the determining factor … Alabama will cover the 6.

Jordan Runco

Prediction: This is the best Alabama defense I’ve seen in recent memory, combined with the most dynamic offense Saban has ever had. They can shut opponents down and if necessary and they can beat you in a shootout. Factor in Deshaun Watson’s 17 interceptions this season with Bama’s 15 non-offensive touchdowns and Alabama gets then extra TD (or 2) for the win and the cover.

Dave Schmulenson

Clemson to cover. If Deshaun Watson is the best player in college football he will prove it to the world for Round II of this heavyweight bout.

Rich Cirminiello

Well, sure, the Tampa guy finishes on top – sounds like a rig job.

Yeah, Clemson was inconsistent throughout the regular season. But this program was built for the postseason, which was evident in the Fiesta Bowl shutout of Ohio State. If Deshaun Watson can play a clean game, Jalen Hurts and the Alabama offense will struggle to score on a Tiger D that’ll play with a chip on its shoulder Monday night … Clemson 24, Alabama 20

Dave Congrove

The computer has Alabama by 9.64 vs. an opening line of 6.5. Interestingly, there is little difference between this year and last season when the computer favored ‘Bama by 9.97 vs. an opening line of 6.5. The cautionary tale on this year’s pick is that, just last week, the computer like Ohio State by 6.36 over Clemson.
