Arizona Wildcats Recruiting Class Overview
It’s an okay-looking class that might not be heavy on the star power or the four-and-five star types, but it’s a big group of prospects coming in with plenty of versatility. There’s not a lot of beef, but there’s a ton of quickness, plenty of athleticism, and several players who could work in several spots. Now the question is whether or not Rich Rodriguez will still be the head coach by the time most of these players are ready for primetime.
The Arizona Wildcats Class Is Heavy On …
Defensive backs. It’s not going to equate to a huge turnaround right away, but Arizona was 117th in the nation last season in pass defense and couldn’t pick off a thing. In comes a loaded class full of good-sized defensive backs to throw into the mix early on. What’ll be interesting is the versatility with several tweener, dual-threat prospects who could play receiver or DB. The secondary needs the most talent in a hurry.
The Star of the Arizona Wildcats Class Is …
WR Nathan Tilford, 6-1, 200, Ontario, CA – But where’s he going to play? A star high school running back, he’s a natural slot receiver for the Wildcats. Or … he could become a whale of a safety if some of the other top incoming prospects don’t quite work out as planned. Or … he could stick at running back and bring a little power to the mix. Arizona State, USC, Michigan and Nebraska were on him, but Arizona got a key piece.
The Arizona Wildcats Biggest 2017 Depth Chart Hole Is …
The defensive front seven has been decimated. The entire starting linebacking corps is gone, and Sani Fuimaono is gone off the defensive interior. The Wildcats were ripped apart against the run all throughout last year, and now it’s starting over this spring. With five linebackers signed, the chances will be there for a newbie to add to the depth.
