South Alabama at Mississippi State

12:00 PM, SECN, Davis Wade Stadium, Starkville, MS

While Dak Prescott is off saving the world – or at least the Dallas Cowboys – Mississippi State has to move on and try building the team back up again before dealing with South Carolina next week and a trip to LSU to follow.

South Alabama has an okay team across the board, with just enough in the bag to push for six wins and a shot a bowl game, but it’s about to get steamrolled over by a Bulldog attack that should look great up front. The USA run defense was lousy last year, and it’s not going to be much better with an undersized front six or seven – depending on the alignment.

The Bulldogs will clamp down on the USA passing game, the line won’t give up a thing, and offensively, QB Nick Fitzgerald will be fine – even if he’s not Dak right away.

Miss State won’t have to breathe too hard.

Fearless Prediction: Mississippi State 48, South Alabama 13
Line: Mississippi State -29.5, o/u: 56.5
ATS Confidence: 5: Lock of the Century – 1: Move Along … 3
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 2

Louisiana Tech at Arkansas

4:00 PM, SECN, Razorback Stadium, Fayetteville, AR

There’s a lot of work to be done in a Louisiana Tech backfield that loses QB Jeff Driskel and RB Kenneth Dixon, but it’s more than just the O that’s the problem – the D could use some help, too.

After a good first season under defensive coordinator Blake Baker, Louisiana Tech has to start over in way too many areas, especially up front, to deal with what’s coming.

Arkansas knows all too well what it’s like to start out sluggish, getting shocked by Toledo and Texas Tech last year after blasting away UTEP. This is still a dangerous Louisiana Tech team, and Bret Bielema isn’t going to get too cute with this. There will still be a passing game, but it won’t be like last year’s, and it won’t be like that right out of the gate.

Line up, smash away with the offensive line, get the ground game going, control the clock, and force the Bulldogs to throw. Tech QB Ryan Higgins is a senior, and he’s got some nice weapons to work with to keep the game from getting out of hand, but the time of possession will be tilted over to the Hog side in a big, big way.

Fearless Prediction: Arkansas 37, Louisiana Tech 17
Line: Arkansas -26, o/u: 53.5
ATS Confidence: 5: Lock of the Century – 1: Move Along … 2
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 2.5

Southern Miss at Kentucky

7:30 PM, ESPNU, Commonwealth Stadium, Lexington, KY

Just how ready is Jay Hopson to lead a loaded Southern Miss team?

The Golden Eagles have the talent, experience, and firepower to win the Conference USA title, but can they keep up with a Kentucky team that desperately needs to win this game to get into the hunt for a bowl game?

If that sounds desperate for UK in just its first week, it is. That’s because the program can’t take anything for granted after two 5-7 seasons, and with the annual loss to Florida coming up next, starting 0-2 could be a deathblow to the season before it even gets going.

While USM will get the offensive machine rolling as the year goes on, it won’t be able to handle the Kentucky speed on offense with a defense that needs to find new star playmakers to take over. The Golden Eagles will win plenty of shootouts this year, but it’s not going to happen in Lexington.

The Wildcats will win, but they’ll have to keep trying well into the second half. It’ll be a fun offensive show, with UK cranking up more of the fireworks with several home runs to answer just when it seems like USM is getting back into the game.

Fearless Prediction: Kentucky 41, Southern Miss 27
Line: Kentucky -6.5
ATS Confidence: 5: Lock of the Century – 1: Move Along … 3
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 3

Massachusetts at Florida

7:30 PM, SECN, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL

America, the University of Florida would like to invite you to the reintroduction of something it didn’t have over the second half of last season – a consistently completed forward pass.

UMass has a few solid receivers, but it doesn’t have a Tajae Sharpe around anymore, and it doesn’t have QB Blake Frohnapfel around to bomb away. The Minutemen offense will struggle to move the chains, but that’s not why you called.

Florida can win this without completing a pass, but with Kentucky coming up next to open up the SEC season, this is Luke Del Rio’s chance to get into an early rhythm and show there’s a midrange passing game to go along with the Gator power.

There will be an easily made Florida field goal, and there will be an ultra-efficient 15-of-17 day from Del Rio.

Fearless Prediction: Florida 48, Massachusetts 7
Line: Florida 35.5, o/u: 50
ATS Confidence: 5: Lock of the Century – 1: Move Along … 3
Must See Rating: 5: Any Ryan Lochte interview – 1: Bridget Jones’s Baby … 2
