Mountain West Final Analysis

The season struggled early with an all-timer of a clunk by UNLV vs. Howard, and it didn’t get too much better.

Good up top, a struggle down below, it was a rocky year for a league that had so much hope coming into the season.

The negative? Some of the new guys struggled – new head coaches at Nevada (Jay Norvell) and San Jose State (Brent Brennan) had a rough time. UNLV couldn’t get bowl eligible, Hawaii took a major step back, Air Force struggled, and New Mexico was shockingly awful.

In all, just five teams finished with winning record, not helped by a rocky bowl season.

However, it wasn’t all bad. Fresno State was one of the nation’s best surprises, Rashaad Penny ran for over 2,000 yards for San Diego State, and Boise State came up with 11 wins including a dominant bowl win over Oregon.
