Big Ten Final Analysis

It was the best conference in college football – and it didn’t matter in the final College Football Playoff fallout. But it was this simple.

Iowa 55, Ohio State 24. If that goes the other way, the Buckeyes are in the CFP, Alabama isn’t, and it’s a whole different story about how the 2017 season played out.

The Big Ten rocked the bowl season – one Michigan collapse aside – but Wisconsin was nearly perfect all year, Penn State was terrific, Michigan State rebounded, Northwestern grew into a player, and despite the bowl loss to South Carolina, Michigan was fine.

Nebraska lost head coach Mike Riley, but the rest of the Big Ten head coaches stayed intact, showing the stability other leagues are missing.

Can Minnesota, Illinois, Maryland and Rutgers keep growing after rebuilding years? If they don’t, the rest of the conference appears ready to carry things for another season.
