All You Really Need To Know About Oregon

(Pac-12) RPI: 9, 3 seed

The loss of the inside presence of Chris Boucher to a torn ACL isn’t a deathblow, but it’s a problem. There’s a reason Oregon was No. 2 in the country in blocks. The Ducks were plucky without him in the Pac-12 Championship loss to Arizona, but they’re going to need more scoring than Dillon Brooks, and they’ll have to hit more from three in their high-octane style.

The D has to be even more aggressive, the backcourt has to keep moving the ball well, and they’ve got to create easy opportunities. This is a good enough team – even without Boucher – to make a big run.

All You Really Need To Know About Iona

(MAAC) RPI: 88, 14 seed

Third in the regular season Metro Atlantic run, the Gaels go through their tournament with an overtime win over Siena to get in. They managed to beat Mountain West star Nevada early in a season tournament – after getting blown away earlier in Reno – slipped past a good Ohio team, and cranked up the offense to be one of the fun teams to watch out for.

They shoot threes, and shoot more threes – hitting ten a game – they hit all their free throws, and they move the ball around really, really well. There’s no size, but they can bomb away.

What’s Going To Happen

This could be a whole lot of fun.

Iona won’t have enough up front to pull this off – the Gaels can’t rebound a lick – but they’re going to bomb away and keep the pressure on the Ducks in a wild and crazy shootout.

Dillon Brooks should put up huge numbers, Oregon should to on a few major scoring runs, and the tempo should be high. Iona will have its moments, but the Ducks survive and advance.
