Welcome to the first look and picks for the biggest games of the 2017 college football season. These quick thoughts are being done in early June, with the real Fearless Prediction and expanded breakdown coming in August.
Early June First Thought: What’s Going To Happen?
The two teams played a tight battle with Colorado State pulling out a 17-8 win.
That made up for the 1962 Oregon State win over a Ram team that ended up winless, but this time around, this should matter a wee bit more.
This is a dangerous-looking Colorado State team with an offense that should be among the best in the Mountain West, and a good enough defense that should be able to hold down the Oregon State ground game.
The Beavers have to hope the passing game can start working under big new JUCO transfer bomber Jake Luton – or whomever is the starting QB – and they’re playing the secondary to get it all going.
It’s the start of a two-game Pac-12 run for the Rams – with the rivalry date against Colorado coming up next – with Oregon State having to fight though Portland State. However, if this is going to be a decent season for Gary Andersen and OSU, they’re going to have to survive in a likely shootout.
The Oregon State pass rush won’t do enough, and the secondary won’t stop QB Nick Stevens and WR Michael Gallup as they – and the rest of the Rams – get the taste of the bowl loss to Idaho out of their mouths.
Oregon State will run well, Colorado State will throw better.
