All You Really Need To Know About Nevada

(Mountain West) 28-6 RPI: 29

Nevada’s biggest problem? The Mountain West stunk, dragging down the national street cred of a strong team. There were a few blips here and there, but the Wolf Pack roared through the last part of the season winning their last nine games and the conference title.

There’s plenty of firepower from three, the offense does a fantastic job of moving the ball around to find the open look, and everyone hits the boards hard. There aren’t enough steals, and there’s a problem when the three isn’t falling, but this could be a dangerous low seed.

All You Really Need To Know About Iowa State

(Big 12) 23-10 RPI: 24

The Cyclones know how to screw up offenses, with one of the best defenses in the country at taking the ball away. With great ball movement and a careful attack, the Cyclones won’t beat themselves and they’ll capitalize on almost every mistake. They can bomb away from three – just ask West Virginia – go on streaky runs, and crank it up in shootout after shootout.

However, they’re not all that physical and don’t do much on the boards. Red-hot to close out the season, even with a strange loss to Texas in early February, they started to find a groove that rolled through the Big 12 tournament. They’ll have a problem against the physical teams on the boards, but if they can bomb away, they’ll be fine.

What’s Going To Happen

Uh oh.

Nevada is a tough, tough team for the Cyclones, with the rebounding ability  to come up with a huge advantage up front – the Wolf Pack bring the 6-7 big bodies who eat up everything – and the three-point shooting to keep up.

Nevada will have problems with size and massive inside presences, but that’s not really Iowa State. The Cyclones will get on the move, swing the ball around well, and should be able to out run their way to the win – with Iowa State fans invading Milwaukee to get the energy going.

But be careful. This is a good enough Nevada team to pull off the upset if the Iowa State threes aren’t falling.
