What’s Next After Antonio Callaway’s Latest Issue?

Florida star wide receiver Antonio Callaway was cited for marijuana possession, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The controversial main man for the Gator offense has had issues with marijuana before, was party of a sexual assault investigation that he was cleared of any wrongdoing, and has been in the doghouse – and suspended for spring ball two years ago – throughout his career.

So now what does Florida do?

The offense will be better, but it’s still going to be challenged early on after finishing 116th in the nation. And who’s up first?

Michigan.

Head coach Jim McElwain has talked before about wanting to make sure there weren’t any more issues for Callaway when it came to marijuana use, but does the star receiver get suspended for a game when he’ll be desperately needed?

By far, he’s been the most important receiver, catching 54 passes for 721 yards and three scores, while running for a score, returning a kickoff for a touchdown, and working as a dangerous punt returner.

The Gators have just about all the other top targets coming back, and the passing game should do more down the field if Feleipe Franks takes over the starting job like he’s supposed to. But it’s Callaway who can make it all go as a No. 1 target with first round NFL Draft talent.

The 5-11, 197-pounder out of Miami started out his career with a bang as an elite punt returner – taking two for scores – but he grew into more of a receiver. This is supposed to be his big year to take his game to another level, but now that’s up to McElwain to see what’s next.

Callaway’s case will go to court on June 6th.
