2017 CFN American Athletic Preview: Something To Prove

2017 CFN Preseason American Athletic Offensive Player of the Year

QB Quinton Flowers, Sr. USF

While he might not have led the way to an American Athletic Conference title, he pulled off an amazing season throwing for over 2,800 yards with 24 touchdowns while running for 1,530 yards and 18 touchdowns.

While he might not have Tom Brady size and build, Tom Brady can’t run like Flowers. Get him into the open field, and he’s gone. An efficient passer, too, he’s got it all to make it an easy transition for Charlie Strong and the new coaching staff.

2017 CFN Preseason American Athletic Defensive Player of the Year

DT Ed Oliver, Soph. Houston

It’s salary drive time for the 2019 NFL Draft. No, the 6-2, 290-pound Oliver might not be a Coke machine on the inside of the line, but he’s good enough to hold his own against the run – but that’s not the key to his game.

Ridiculously quick, he roared in his first season as one of the nation’s best interior pass rushers, coming up with 22.5 tackles for loss along with six sacks. Is he an anchor? Sort of, but the coaching staff will be more than happy if he’s spending his time camped out in backfields again.
