2017 All-Mountain West Team & Top 30 Players

CFN Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year

RB Rashaad Penny, Sr. SDSU

Not just a 2,000-yard runner, and not just a special kick returner, Penny destroyed everyone in the Mountain West in the all-purpose yard department – and led the nation, too.

He gained over 1,000 more yards this season than the league’s No. 2 man, Colorado State RB Dalyn Dawkins, running for 2,027 yards with 19 touchdowns, with 142 receiving yards and two scores. Throw in the 70 yards and a score on punt returns, and 459 yards and two scores on kickoffs, and it was an imagine year.

CFN Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year

CB Jalen Davis, Sr. Utah State

The veteran Aggie corner tied for the conference lead with five interceptions, taking three for touchdowns. Great in the open field, he finished with 32 tackles, came up with four sacks, and broke up 13 passes.

CFN Mountain West Coach of the Year

Jeff Tedford, Fresno State

What he did was nothing short of miraculous. In one year, Fresno State went from being a one-win clunker to a 9-4 season and a run to the Mountain West title game. The biggest difference? The defense gave up 319 yards per game after allowing 415 last year and 446 in 2016.
