Texas A&M really, really needs a nice, easy blowout win.

With losses in three of its last four games, and ugly blowout losses to Mississippi State and Auburn, it’s been a rough run with the offense struggling, the defense not picking up the slack, and the negativity that comes with all of it.

In comes New Mexico, who’s on a four-game losing streak with the offense fizzling out and the season going nowhere. A win over Texas A&M would make the year, but the Lobos have to win out with UNLV and a trip to San Diego State to close.

The Aggies are bowl eligible with a win, with road games at Ole Miss and LSU to close things out. It might not seem like much, but the SEC West title is off, so a bowl game is a bowl game.

One Reason Why New Mexico Will Win

The Texas A&M offense just doesn’t work.

Kellen Mond struggled, but that was expected – he’s a true freshman. Nick Starkel isn’t having any more success for an Aggie passing game that hasn’t hit the 50% mark in any of the last three games.

40-of-98. That’s what the A&M passing game has done over the last three weeks. The yards have been fine, but there’s absolutely no consistency whatsoever.

The Lobos have problems against decent passing teams, but they’re okay again the run. They need to hope A&M screws up and can’t keep the chains moving. But …

One Reason Why Texas A&M Will Win

New Mexico can’t move the chains at all.

The Lobos have the third-worst offense in college football on third downs, which is inexcusable considering the running game creates a whole slew of short third down tries.

That, combined with having a nightmare of a time holding on to the ball has crushed an offense that just can’t score.

The Lobos rallied late to make the Colorado State game interesting, and everything clicked against Air Force, but the O has scored fewer than 17 points in five of the last seven games.

A&M, get two early touchdowns, and game over.

What’s Going To Happen

A&M will get two early touchdowns, and game over.

The Aggie offense won’t open it up, but the defensive front that leads the SEC in sacks and tackles for loss will destroy the New Mexico offense that won’t get going.

It won’t be scintillating, but it’ll be decisive.
