3 Sun Belt Assistants Nominated For Frank Broyles Award
The award has been handed out since 1996.
The Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced on Wednesday the nominees for the 2017 Frank Broyles Award, which honors college football’s top assistant coaches. The nominees were selected out of 1,500 assistant coaches representing 129 D1 programs across the nation. Of the 56 nominations, three hail from the Sun Belt.
Brian Early, Defensive Line Coach, Arkansas State
Nate Fuqua, Defensive Coordinator/Outside Linebackers, GEorgia State
Vic Koenning, Defensive Coordinator, Troy
An 18-member selection committee, made up of distinguished former head coaches, and a committee representing FWAA will select 15 semi-finalists, five finalists and an overall winner to be announced December 5.
Last year, Brent Venables of Clemson picked up the hardware. To date, no Sun Belt assistant or Group of Five assistant has won.
