No. 25 Texas A&M pounds No.11 WVU in season opener.
Tyler Davis and Admon Gilder both scored 23 points as No. 25 Texas A&M pummeled No. 11 West Virginia 88-65 on Friday night in the Armed Forces Classic at Ramstein Air Base in Ramstein-Meisenbach, Germany.
D.J. Hogg scored 19 points and grabbed seven boards for the Aggies.
James “Beetle” Bolden led the Mountaineers with 19 points. Jevon Carter had 13 points and seven assists. Wesley Harris tallied 12 points in his debut.
After WVU jumped out to 23-10 lead on a 3-pointer from Bolden, Texas A&M came barreling back.
The Mountaineers became lackadaisical and committed seven turnovers late in the first half and the Aggies used a 19-2 run spanning both halves to take a 57-40 edge on Gilder’s 3 with 15:29 remaining.
WVU forced 18 turnovers and had seven steals. However, the Mountaineers turned the ball over 16 times.
Texas A&M’s bench outscored WVU 49-25. The Aggies outrebounded the Mountaineers 47-35.
WVU shot 34 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers made 5-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Texas A&M shot 48 percent from the floor and 53 percent from 3-point range.
The Aggies were without suspended forward Robert Williams and point guard J.J. Caldwell. WVU was without Esa Ahmad, who is suspended the first half of the season.
The Mountaineers’ home opener will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. against American.
