What’s Going To Happen
This might not have anything to do with the Sun Belt title – like two of the other key conference games are – but it has as many storylines as any in the conference.
For New Mexico State, this is its last Sun Belt game before going off into the land of independence. Win this – after beating Idaho last week to get into position – and the Aggies are off to a bowl game. Lose, and that’s it. Game over.
South Alabama blew it. It was good enough this year to beat Arkansas State and Troy – two of the teams playing for at least a piece of the Sun Belt title – but weird enough to lose three of its last four games, bottoming out with a 52-0 loss to a previously winless Georgia Southern.
This is the last game for head coach Joey Jones, who’s resigning after getting the football program rolling. USA is ensured of a losing season, but it can ruin NMSU’s campaign with a big win.
The Jaguar offense doesn’t move the ball well enough, the defensive front isn’t consistent enough at getting into the backfield, and there’s no ground game whatsoever.
New Mexico State leads the Sun Belt in both third down conversions and third down D, and its passing game is the best in the league, too.
With a bowl game there for the taking, the Aggies will take over the game from the start, QB Tyler Rogers is fine and will start throwing and keep throwing, and it’ll be a great moment for a program that wants to keep it all going.
USA will fight to keep this from getting out of hand, but the O won’t be able to keep up.
