Who’s the most fun team in college football right now?

Wake Forest has been a blast ever since it struggled through a midseason three-game losing streak. All of a sudden, the offense has taken off, ripping up Louisville, Notre Dame and Syracuse for a total of 143 points in the last three games.

The Demon Deacons aren’t getting enough defense at times, but who cares? They’re going to a bowl game, and again, they’re a blast every time out.

NC State’s win at Boston College was almost completely ignored.

Blown off as an also-ran after losing to Clemson and Notre Dame, the Wolfpack came up with a gut-check performance against the Eagles in a 17-14 victory. Beat Wake Forest and take down North Carolina, and a ten-win season is possible.

One Reason Why NC State Will Win

Pound, pound, pound.

NC State didn’t dominate the time of possession against BC, but it hit on enough third downs to overcame an off game from QB Ryan Finley, and it came up with a nice day from Nyheim Hines and the ground game.

State came up with 221 yards averaging over five yards per carry, and that has to be the formula this week even more.

The Pack ground game has to control the game and control the clock against a Wake Forest team that doesn’t care about time of possession, Finley has to hit his third down throws, and the pass rush has to get to …

One Reason Why Wake Forest Will Win

John Wolford.

A reasonable case could be made that the best quarterback in college football over the last month is in Wake Forest. Coming off an injury and missing the Clemson game, Wolford was fine in the loss to Georgia Tech, and then he out-Lamar Jacksoned Lamar Jackson with a 461-yard, five-score day against Louisville.

He threw for 331 yards and two scores against Notre Dame, and hit Syracuse for 363 yards and three touchdowns through the air, and 136 yards and three scores on the ground.

He’s great, the offense doesn’t turn the ball over, and the defense is great at getting into the backfield.

What’s Going To Happen

NC State is the better team, but who’s stopping Wake Forest right now?

The Wolfpack offense will do whatever it wants to – Finley will bounce back from the rough outing to bomb away, the ground game will rock, and it’ll all have to keep pressing to get by Wolford and the Demon Deacon offense that’ll keep their foot on the gas for a full four quarters.

But the NC State D will come up with the stop the Demon Deacon side won’t. It’ll be a whole lot of fun, but the Wolfpack will survive – barely.
