It’s all about NC State staying focused.

Losing two straight stinks, and losing a tough battle at home against Clemson hurts, but the ACC title is still on the table.

The Wolfpack have to win out on the road against Boston College and Wake Forest before taking care of North Carolina. So that, pray that Florida State becomes Florida State again in an upset this weekend, and …

Dealing with a red hot Boston College is going to be hard enough.

The Eagles were struggling, the season was effectively over, and it was just about going through the motions before a new coach could take over. And then the offense showed up.

With blowout wins over Virginia and Florida State, along with a 45-42 thriller over Louisville, BC has turned in one of the most shocking runs of the season. And now it’s just a win away from going bowling.

One Reason Why NC State Will Win

Boston College still doesn’t have a passing game.

The 275 yards and three touchdowns against Virginia were great, but the Eagles haven’t connected on more than 43% of their throws in three of their last five games.

Freshman Anthony Brown has been great, and he’s looking like the future star of the show – if he’s not already there – but he can get knocked out of his groove right away with any sort of pressure.

This is a gut check game for the Wolfpack. After the last two weeks, they have to bring the intensity and the pass rush from the start. If the defensive front can get to Brown right away, the run defense should pick of the slack. But …

One Reason Why Boston College Will Win

The Wolfpack run defense hasn’t exactly been exposed, but it struggled in the two games it couldn’t struggle against.

After allowing 639 rushing yards in the first seven game, State gave up 318 yards to Notre Dame and 224 to Clemson getting gashed way too easily.

It took a half a year, but the Boston College offense has cranked it up.

The offensive line has was fantastic against Louisville, and the production has kept on going for a ground game that averaged over five yards per carry over the three game winning streak.

AJ Dillon is a new ACC superstar, carrying the offense with 96 carries over the last three games. He’ll be keyed on, and the Wolfpack D will do everything to slow him down, and that’s where Brown has to come in.

It all ties together. The ground game is working, Brown has been solid, and the Eagles have hit their third down conversions. It’s been this simple statistically – convert 37% of the third down tries, go 5-0. Go under, go 0-4.

NC State has allowed teams to convert 40% of their third down chances or more in seven of its nine games.

What’s Going To Happen

The NFL scouts will be focused on Bradley Chubb and Harold Landry, but this will be about the quarterback play. The Wolfpack’s will be better.

The NC State will be too balanced for the Eagles, and the run defense will be just fine.

BC is for real good, and it’s strong enough now to be a factor every week, but this is where the Wolfpack bounce back a bit.

Coming off a two-pick performance in the loss to Clemson, Ryan Finley will come up with a solid game to go along with a ground attack that’ll return after struggling against the Tigers.
