Even when Arkansas has something positive happen, it’s still not enough.

The Hogs game up with a thrilling late win to get by Ole Miss, and followed it up with second straight win.

But it took a major fight and a comeback to get by a horrible Coastal Carolina 39-38.

The close wins were every bit as damning to the Bret Bielema era as the run of five losses in six games earlier in the season, but a two-game winning streak is a two-game winning streak.

Beat LSU on the road, through, and the narrative will change in a huge hurry.

The Tigers are on the totally opposite side of the issue. Arkansas won, but it felt like a loss. LSU lost to Alabama, but with a good battle on the road that was a wee bit of a fight, it almost felt like a win – at least on a national scale.

That, combined with the win over Auburn, and it hasn’t been a totally disastrous season, but it still hasn’t been anything special. With Tennessee and Texas A&M to close, though – both winnable games – a ten-win season is still possible.

One Reason Why Arkansas Will Win

And the starting quarterback will be … ?

At the very least, LSU has to prepare for both Arkansas quarterback options, with starter Austin Allen getting some practice work in with a banged up shoulder. Cole Kelley appears to be taking to the gig, but he’s fighting through a foot problem.

Kelley threw  for 264 yards and powered for a score – and he threw three touchdown passes in the win over Ole Miss – but Allen is the star of the show if he can give it a go.

And the coaching staff is keeping the starting QB a secret as long as it can.

No matter who it is, the quarterback might not be able to stretch the field, but the Hog O should be able to hang on to the ball for well over half the game. It’s decent on third downs, even if it’s not explosive.

One Reason Why LSU Will Win

Oh yeah, the LSU pressure.

The Hogs don’t generate much of a pass rush, and the big O line isn’t doing nearly enough to keep Kelley from getting popped. He’s a big, strong quarterback who can handle himself well at times, but he’s not going to get a whole lot of time.

The D line stepped up against Alabama and had a nice game, and it’s been steady from all sides at getting into the backfield.

It won’t have any issues against the Hogs, either.

What’s Going To Happen

21 carries for 252 yards and two scores. That’s what Derrius Guice did last year in the 38-10 LSU win at Arkansas. Expect more of the same.

Arkansas won’t get obliterated, but it’ll never have control of the game. The LSU offense will be just efficient enough through the air to go along with a massive performance from Guice, Darrel Williams, and the Tiger ground game.
