It’s not a sure thing that the winner will go bowling, but at the very least, it’ll be close.

It’s not a sure thing that the loser will finish with a losing season, but at the very least, it’s going to need a minor miracle to get to six wins.

Kansas State has been disappointing in too many close losses, and it even struggle against a miserable Kansas team. Lose this, and with West Virginia, at Oklahoma State and Iowa State to close, just assume the season is effectively over.

Texas Tech has lost three straight and can’t get its groove back after blowing away Kansas, but this is the chance to do it. Win, and with Baylor up next week, six wins and a bowl shouldn’t be an issue. Lose, and the Red Raiders will have to beat TCU and win at Texas.

One Reason Why Kansas State Will Win

And there’s the Texas Tech run defense we all know and love.

After a season with a seemingly improved run D after last year’s disaster – give or take a rough outing here and there – Kansas State got hit by Oklahoma State for 208 rushing yards and then was ripped apart by Oklahoma for 336 yards and three scores.

Kansas State might not have the same killer ground game of past years, and it might not be dominant, but it still works.

As always, to get this done, the Wildcats have to control the ground game and control the clock to keep the Texas Tech offense off the field.

However …

One Reason Why Texas Tech Will Win

The Texas Tech passing game is about to go off.

Kansas State got destroyed by Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma, allowing 410 yards and two scores, and then couldn’t slow down Kansas – Kansas – allowing 418 yards last week.

Without enough of a pass rush, and without enough big plays coming from the secondary, this should be Nic Shimonek’s game, coming off a 322-yard, four score day against Oklahoma.

The Red Raider offense hasn’t been consistent enough, but this week, if the last few games are any indication for both sides, generating at least 350 Red Raider passing yards shouldn’t be an issue.

What’s Going To Happen

Kansas State can’t get the offense moving well enough to keep up. The Wildcats are too mediocre in too many areas, while Texas Tech is great on third downs.

The tables will be flipped a bit too much for the Wildcats when it comes to controlling the game. No, Texas Tech won’t own the time of possession, but it won’t be far off.
