There’s no drama. There’s no pressure. It’s just a game between two bowl bound teams shooting for a better record.

Kansas State managed to shock Oklahoma State with a brilliant performance to get to six wins and bowl eligibility. Winners of three of their last four games, the Wildcats were able to overcome a rocky stretch, and a quarterback injury issue, to come up with a solid year.

Iowa State continues to be the Big 12’s big shocker, getting past two close dogfights losses to beat Baylor and keep hopes alive for a nine-win season.

And now it’s bowl pecking order time.

One Reason Why Iowa State Will Win

It’s time to get that passing game working.

With star RB David Montgomery hurting, Iowa State has to start slinging it from the start against the Big 12’s worst pass defense.

The Wildcat have allowed 400 yards or more in four of the last five games, and gave up 372 yards in that fifth game. Yes, playing Oklahoma State, Texas  Tech and Oklahoma have something to do with that, but Kansas chucked it for four bills, too.

Iowa State works best when it’s balanced and relies on the defense, but it showed it could gear up the air show at times when it has to.

The Cyclones don’t have to throw for 400, but if they’re connecting on their third down throws, come up with 250, and limit the picks, the offense will be fine.

One Reason Why Kansas State Will Win

Can Byron Pringle continue to be among the Big 12’s most explosive playmakers?

The Wildcat receiver caught two touchdown passes against Texas Tech three weeks ago, and hit Oklahoma State for four catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns and returned a kick for a score.

The Iowa State kickoff coverage is a bit of an issue, and while the secondary has been great, it’ll give up a big throw or two.

But Kansas State’s biggest plus is Iowa State. The Wildcats are better equipped for the lower-scoring slugfests that rely more on defense and ball control. Iowa State is more of K-State’s speed.

What’s Going To Happen

Montgomery will give it a go for the Cyclones, the passing game will be efficient, and the defense will do the rest.

Iowa State will out-Kansas State, Kansas State.

The Cyclones don’t turn the ball over enough for K-State – they have yet to lose a fumble – they don’t have penalty problems, and they’re great at coming up with the right defensive plays at the right times.

It’ll be a great battle with Iowa State doing just a wee bit more defensively in the second half, coming up with third down stop after third down stop.
