Georgia Tech still has work to do.
The Yellow Jackets are getting a chance to play the role of spoiler down the stretch, but they still need another win to go bowling. Lose this, and the pressure will be on to beat a Georgia team pushing for the College Football Playoff.
Able to beat Virginia Tech last week, they were able to stop a rough slide of three losses in four games, but they have to keep the offense moving to get past a Duke team that’s still fighting for bowl eligibility, too.
The Blue Devils have hit a wall, losing their last six games after starting out 4-0. The offense has gone bye-bye, but the defense is still solid.
Lose, and that’s it. Win, and they the trip to Wake Forest next week is for a bowl game.
One Reason Why Georgia Tech Will Win
Duke has a whole lot of talented hitters in the linebacking corps and in the front seven, but there’s been a problem stoping the run over the last month.
Great over the first part of the season, they got run over by Cam Akers and Florida State, were destroyed by Darrin Hall and Pitt, and have allowed well over 900 yards over the last four games.
They just saw an option offense when they made the trip to Army last week, and they weren’t awful. They held the Black Knights to 226 yards and under four yards per carry, and lost.
Georgia Tech’s brand of option attack is better and more effective.
One Reason Why Duke Will Win
Duke, just get it close.
Georgia Tech’s defense isn’t bad, but get it into the red zone and it’ll give up points.
But of course teams get scored on when allowing offenses inside the 20, right? Yeah, most of the time, but over 40 teams hold firm 20% of the time or more, and just about everyone is able to come up with a stop once in a while. Only 12 teams allow opponents to convert more than 90% of the time in the red zone.
Georgia Tech is the worst in the nation, giving up points 25-of-26 times.
In a game that should be a close battle either way, Duke needs to capitalize on every opportunity.
What’s Going To Happen
Georgia Tech will roll on the road.
They’ll take control of the time and the game from the start, Duke won’t have the offensive pop to keep up, and the option offense will dominate.
Army was able to keep the ball for 32:30 last week, but it was the defense that rose up and rocked, stuffing. the Duke offense to almost nothing on the ground.
The Yellow Jackets will do the same, but unlike Army, they’ll run for over 300 yards.
