WVU quarterback Will Grier was one of the few QB’s added to the Manning watch list on Wednesday. The Manning award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl for the accomplishments in college athletics of the Manning family (Archie, Peyton and Eli).
Grier is on a list with quarterbacks such as TCU’s Kenny Hill, Virginia Tech’s Josh Jackson, Clemson’s Kelly Bryant Jr. and others.
The Manning award has recognized quarterbacks from all over the country and in the first 13 years of the award, the award has been given to players from 11 different schools and four different conferences. A player from the Big 12 conference has won the award twice with them both being from Texas (Vince Young and Colt McCoy).
From Grier’s point of view, if he continues to play well as the season goes on, no matter what WVU’s record is, he will have to be seriously considered for the award. Of the 11 players on the list, Grier is third in passing yards behind UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Texas Tech’s Nic Shimonek and only trails Rosen by 1 in touchdowns thrown.
