What’s Going To Happen

This is it. With Toledo and Northern Illinois currently on top of the West, and the division deep on through Ball State, the loser of this game is effectively out of the MAC title chase.

Western Michigan had won four straight, and then came the shocker of a home loss to Akron on a strange Sunday game. But with Central Michigan and Kent State up next, there’s a chance to build up the wins needed before finishing up at NIU and Toledo – as long as the Broncos beat the Eagles.

Eastern Michigan has lost four straight, and all the losses have been painful.

The Eagles lost each of those four games by a touchdown or less, but now they need a win. Beating the directional rival would put hopes of going bowling back on the table. Lose, and with a trip to Northern Illinois up next, it’ll be tough to get to six wins.

The EMU defense might be playing well – the secondary has been great – but there’s no running game and the chains aren’t moving easily enough.

Western Michigan has to see the Akron loss as an aberration, and it has to win the turnover battle – it’s on top of the MAC in the category – and the ground game is just good enough to take control for most of the game.

And give Eastern Michigan yet another close call loss.
