What’s Going To Happen
Finally, Massachusetts was able to come up with a win.
This just isn’t that bad a team. It has offensive playmakers, and it’s been competitive against just about everyone, but last week it was finally able to get the job done.
Beating Georgia Southern was good, but taking down Appalachian State would be great.
As impressive as UMass can be even at 1-7, that’s as underwhelming as Appalachian State is at 5-2.
It’s struggling on offense, and it pushed Wake Forest in a tough loss, but it’s not exactly blowing anyone’s doors off. Even so, it’s sitting atop the Sun Belt standings, and can be bowl eligible if it can come up with this non-conference win.
This is a fundamentally sound Appalachian State team. It’s not flashy, it doesn’t do anything at a high level, but the O line is solid, the running game good, and the team knows how to win.
UMass has the firepower to get up fast and make ASU push a little bit. What it doesn’t have is an offensive line that can keep defenses out of the backfield.
ASU will come up with six sacks, and seemingly always at the worst times for UMass, but the Minuteman offense and passing game will crank it up – and the Mountaineers won’t be able to keep up.
It’ll be a fun and wild game, with UMass showing that it knows how to win.
