Here are three keys for an Aztec victory this Saturday night.
San Diego State (6-1) vs. Fresno State (4-2) Keys to Aztec Victory
Date: Saturday, October 21st
Time: 7:30 pm PT
Venue: SDCCU Stadium San Diego, CA
After a very disappointing loss at home against Boise State, the San Diego State Aztecs look to respond this weekend against Fresno State.
The Aztecs dropped out of the AP Top 25 and Coaches poll following their first loss. Here are three keys to an Aztecs’ victory this Saturday:
1. Force Turnovers
All season long, the Aztecs have relied on their defense to step up down the stretch. Specifically, the Aztecs forced interceptions to clinch the upset against Stanford, a road victory against Air Force, and a home victory against Northern Illinois University. Overall, the Aztecs’ defense has been a major factor during their successful run.
2. Diversify offensive game plan
Last Saturday marked the first time all season that star running back Rashaad Penny did not rush for at least 100 yards. Penny was stuffed all night long by an aggressive Broncos’ defense that held him to 53 yards.
The Aztecs’ need to let QB Christian Chapman take some more shots. Chapman threw for 240 yards and 1 touchdown last week. He showed promise throwing during play-action and could be another lethal weapon for the Aztecs when the run game is struggling.
3. Play and win together
Despite losing their chance to go undefeated, the Aztecs should not lose hope for the remainder of the season. The Aztecs didn’t look like a team that had won eight consecutive games — ranging from last season.
If the Aztecs can take care of business this Saturday, they will not face a team over . 500 for the final four games of the season (Hawaii, SJSU, Nevada, & New Mexico). The Aztecs could hope for a potential rematch against Boise State if both teams reach the MW Championship Game. Ultimately, the Aztecs must stay focused in order to finish off the season on the right note.
Final Score Prediction
San Diego State 28, Fresno State 21
