Oklahoma State was able to take a deep breath with two weeks off, and now it needs to go on a run.

After this, three of the next four games are on the road – Texas, West Virginia and Iowa State – around the Bedlam date with Oklahoma. Lose this, and it’s going to take a whole lot of work to get back into the Big 12 title chase.

Baylor also had a few weeks off after a brutal first five games. While everyone else other than Kansas is making noise in the Big 12 title chase, the Bears are simply looking for a win.

They were competitive against Oklahoma, and they haven’t been totally destroyed in any one game, but they’re not … they’re not … good.

So now it’s spoiler time.

They can still get to a bowl game by winning six of their final seven games, and four of the next five are at home, and … no. But beating the Cowboys would be a huge, huge moment for head coach Matt Rhule and the program.

One Reason Why Baylor Will Win

the offense has picked up a bit after Zach Smith took over. The passing game still hasn’t been consistent, but he’s looking more and more like a player to build around.

He bombed away on Oklahoma for 463 yards and four scores, and wasn’t bad against Kansas State. The big plays are there, but the Bears need more of them against an Oklahoma State secondary that’s been solid, but gives up yards.

On the other side of the ball, the Bears can get into the backfield and they can pressure the quarterback on a consistent basis. It’s not leading to enough stops, but they can at least be disruptive.

One Reason Why Oklahoma State Will Win

As good as the Baylor offense is, it doesn’t have the horses to keep up the pace with the nation’s second-best attack.

The Cowboys have hit the 500-yard mark in every game but one – the loss to TCU, and they came up with 499 yards in that one.

Baylor doesn’t have the secondary to come close to stopping what Mason Rudolph and the passing game are doing. There might be a few too many interceptions lately, but Rudolph has the talent to hit 70% of his throw and put up way over 300 yards without a problem.

He’ll do it this week.

0-3 against Baylor, there’s motivation for Rudolph to come up with something big.

What’s Going To Happen

Baylor will put up plenty of yards and have a few good moments, but Oklahoma State will be too balanced and too good from the start. Rudolph will hit 300 yards, RB Justice Hill will finish with 100 yards, and the machine will work just fine.

The Bears will make it entertaining for a half, but they won’t ever be in control.
