Nevada, as expected, was named the preseason favorite by the media

Mountain West preseason projections were announced Wednesday morning from the Las Vegas Hard Rock, the site of the 2017-18 MWC men’s basketball media day.

The Nevada Wolf Pack, fresh off a regular season title and conference tournament, won 28 games last season and clinched a #12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Eric Musselman’s group return star forward Jordan Caroline, point guard Lindsey Drew, and a handful of impact transfers.

Individual awards were captured by Boise State’s Chandler Hutchison, UNLV’s Brandon McCoy and Nevada’s Caleb Martin.

Hutchison, who took a sizable leap last season averaged 17.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for Boise State. He declared for the NBA Draft in the spring, but decided to return for his senior season.

Brandon McCoy committed to UNLV in the spring after receiving offers from college basketball’s heavyweights. He’ll start at center this season for the Runnin’ Rebels. McCoy was also named a McDonald’s all-american as a high school senior. He’s a five-star recruit.

Nevada forward Caleb Martin is also an immediate starter. He transferred from North Carolina State with his twin brother Cody, and averaged 11.5 points per game in 2015-16.
