Golic, a former offensive lineman for Notre Dame, says he was very impressed by Smart’s Bulldogs when he saw them play the Irish in South Bend this season.

Golic was so impressed that he went as far as to say that Smart is deserving of the coach of the year honor for the first half of the season.

“I would go with Kirby Smart for best coach,” Golic Jr. said on SportsCenter. “You look elsewhere in the SEC [outside of Alabama], this guy’s a [Nick] Saban disciple and someone who already in his second year has an undefeated team that’s now ranked in the top four. And they have uncommon depth. I saw that defense first-hand against Notre Dame, but on offense, they’re the only Power 5 team with five rushers over 125 yards for that group.

“It’s not just Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. They’ve got depth at quarterback, running back and they’ve got a great team.”

Georgia currently ranks fourth in the AP Poll and has a 6-0 record.
