What’s Going To Happen

How disappointing is Tulsa? This was supposed to be a team good enough to reload, get the offense going, and be a factor in the AAC West race. The O is there, but the D is really, really not.

And now the Golden Hurricane are dead last in the division, while Houston is tied for the top with a 2-0 conference record.

But the Cougars are underwhelming.

The offense can’t seem to find any consistency, but the team pushed past a dangerous SMU last week. Now it has to blow through the Golden Hurricane and ramp it up for Memphis and at USF in back-to-back showdowns.

It comes down to this: Can Houston run the ball? Yes, just enough to get by, and that’s good enough.

Tulsa allowed 488 rushing yards and eight touchdowns to Tulane’s option offense last week, and to be fair, it’s hard to statistically be a great run D when facing New Mexico, Navy and Toledo, too.

But the Cougars will offset their rocky passing game with lots and lots of yards on the ground.

It’ll still be the dink-and-dunk Houston O, but with a whole lot of rushing yards.
