What’s Going To Happen

Is this SMU’s big moment? Is this when it rises up and makes a giant statement that it’s going to be a factor in the American Athletic Conference race?

Houston might be underwhelming so far, but its only loss was in a 27-24 fight with Texas Tech. It struggled to put away a miserable Temple team with no offense, it was okay against a Rice team with no defense, and it was able to slide by Arizona early in the season.

3-1 isn’t all that bad, but with road games at USF and Tulane still to deal with, along with home games against Memphis and Navy, it has to beat back a very, very dangerous Mustang team.

SMU’s offense has had no problems cranking it up so far, and there’s no dogging the one loss against TCU. But not it’s time to beat a good team. Now it’s time to show that after years of struggling, it’s finally ready to be a factor.

Brillant at not turning the ball over and amazing at doing whatever is needed to keep the offense moving, SMU can roll in a variety of ways. Can Houston – who might be without star DT Ed Oliver – show enough defense to come through in key moments?

Who’s at quarterback for the Cougars? The Houston offense hasn’t seen a short check down pass it didn’t like to throw, but will Kyle Allen get a shot again, or will it by Kyle Postma after taking over the starting gig last week?

SMU’s defense can get to the quarterback, and the offense doesn’t miss a beat, but it’s going to give up over 300 yards through the air. At home, the Houston defense will survive on a few late key stops, but it’ll get pushed and pushed hard all game long.
