Former Georgia Athletics Director Resurfaces In Maryland
Former Georgia wide receiver and athletics director Damon Evans has been appointed interim athletics director at the University of Maryland.
Evans has been the associate athletics director at Maryland since Nov. 2014. Kevin Anderson, the Terrapins current athletic director, has been placed on leave after a falling out with the school’s president.
Evans returned to Georgia in 1998 after serving as Southeastern Conference assistant commissioner for eligibility and compliance. He worked in UGA’s athletic association before replacing Vince Dooley as AD in 2004 by then-president Michael Adams. Evans’s tenure was abruptly cut short in 2010 after he was arrested for DUI in Atlanta with a 28-year old woman who was not his wife. He moved to Boston and was working as Vice President, Corporate Development for a data security firm before being hired by Maryland.
Current Georgia AD, Greg McGarity, then Florida’s associate athletics director, replaced Evans in 2010.
