You want total dominance in a series?

Florida State is 19-0 all-time vs. Duke, with the closest games a 25-6 Seminole sin in 2007, the second closest a 29-7 layup in 2004.

Is this the year Duke is good enough, and Florida State is bad enough, to make history.

The Seminoles were close to getting by Miami, but lost in a 24-20 heartbreaker for a 1-3 start. However, not all hope is totally lost.

It’ll take FSU running the table, but there’s still a battle at Clemson, and there’s still Louisville to play. First, though, there can’t be a whiff against the Blue Devils.

Duke struggled against Miami and Virginia in losses after a great 4-0 start, but the offense has been okay, the defense as good as it’s been in a long time, and the makeup is there to pull this off.

One Reason Why Florida State Will Win

The defense is still fantastic.

It hasn’t been clutch, and the NFL secondary couldn’t come up with a big stop in the final moments, but it’s still among the most talented in the country.

Last week it couldn’t come up with the big stop late in the loss, but there shouldn’t be a problem against the Duke passing game.

The Blue Devils are great at grinding down the clock, but the passing game is woefully inefficient and won’t be able to push anything deep. The running attack has to crank up well over 200 yards – good luck with that against the FSU defensive front.

One Reason Why Duke Will Win

Duke struggled to control the clock against Virginia last week, but overall it’s been outstanding defensively on third downs and great at controlling the tempo.

The FSU offense was balanced against Miami, and came up with one of its better games, but it’s been a fight. It can’t convert third down plays, and they’re struggling to come up with first downs and keep things moving. Again, they were able to against the Hurricanes, but will the same intensity be there against … Duke?

LB Joe Giles-Harris and the defensive front should be solid at applying pressure in the FSU backfield and bothering James Blackman – the Seminole O line continues to be a big problem.

If Duke can mirror the Wake Forest playbook, it might make this a battle.

What’s Going To Happen

What FSU team will show up? Will it be totally demoralized against a feisty and jacked up Duke team, or will it see this as the moment it can start turning the season around?

Expect somewhere in between.

The Noles will be sleepy, and they’ll have problems with the Duke defensive front, but just like the Wake Forest game, when it really matters, the team with the talent will find a way to get it done.
