TOTALLY unacceptable, and heads will roll because of it.

After going 7-3 here picking the best point totals, evening things out with a 3-7 week is NOT okay.

How could Vanderbilt vs. Florida possible become a mild shootout?

How could Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State scoring stall late?

Excuses are like fantasy football teams. Everyone has them, and no one cares about yours.

But these ten are right.

Welcome to the point total, over/under picks – the best of the predictions for this week. Which ones are the most obvious to go one way or the other? Here you go.

10. Ball State at Akron

LINE: Akron -6, o/u: 51
OVER/UNDER PICK: Under

It’s already a low point total, so this is a little bit of a hope and pray pick – especially after Akron beat Bowling Green 34-23 last week – but Ball State is missing six offensive starters and can’t seem to get anything going.

The Cardinals will score more than the three points they did against Western Michigan last week, but the Zips haven’t been all that bad defensively. And the O? In three of the five games, Akron scored 17 points or fewer.

9. Alabama at Texas A&M

LINE: Alabama -26.5, o/u: 55
OVER/UNDER PICK: Over

Just go with the hot team and assume it’s going to keep on blazing away.  Alabama scored 59 on Vanderbilt and 66 on Ole Miss – it could hit the 55 mark on A&M all by itself. The danger, of course, is a 41-10 wipeout, but three of the last four meetings between the two blew past the 55.

8. Kansas State at Texas

LINE: Texas -3.5 o/u: 50
OVER/UNDER PICK: Under

Visions of that 14-7 Vanderbilt win over Kansas State are still way too fresh. Think of it this way – even in a slight shootout against a bad Baylor team, K-State and the Bears only combined for 53.

Texas is dialing up the defense since the Maryland debacle. The USC overtime game barely got over 50 – 27-24 USC – and last week’s Iowa State game was 17-7.

7. New Mexico State at Appalachian State

LINE: Appalachian State -13, o/u: 54.5
OVER/UNDER PICK: Over

There’s a reasonable fear to stay away considering Appalachian State hasn’t scored more than 20 points against any FBS team, and New Mexico State is actually playing a little D. But the Aggies have a way of turning games in to shootouts.

Four of the five Aggie games have blown past the 54.5 point mark so far, including last week’s 42-24 loss at Arkansas. This will be when the ASU offense wakes up, because it’ll have to against this NMSU passing game.

6. Michigan State vs. Michigan

LINE: Michigan -10, o/u: 39.5
OVER/UNDER PICK: Over

The worry here is that Michigan State might not score if it plays like it did against Iowa. It’s also worrisome that Michigan hasn’t scored more than 39.5 points by itself in any of the four games so far, and now John O’Korn is supposed to be the answer?

Will this be a 12-10 slugfest like 2012, or a 29-6 fight like 2013? Nah. It’ll take some work to get there, but it’ll happen late.

5. Texas Tech at Kansas

LINE: Texas Tech -17.5, o/u: 80
OVER/UNDER PICK: Under

The Texas Tech defense hasn’t been all that bad. Statistically it might smell, but only the 52-45 win over Arizona State went over the 80 mark, and the other three games didn’t come all that close.

The Red Raiders will do their part, but this should come in around 70-to-75. Kansas will stall way too often.

The last time these two went over 80? A 63-21 Red Raider win in 2008. The two haven’t come anywhere close to the mark since then.

4. LSU at Florida

LINE: Florida -3.5, o/u: 46.5
OVER/UNDER PICK: Under

You owe us, Florida. How dare you and Vanderbilt decide to play some offense last week?

The Gators don’t have any decent receivers left with Tyrie Cleveland out, and there’s no way LSU’s D doesn’t come out frothing at the mouth after last week’s loss to Troy.

Three of LSU’s five games so far have been under 46.5 points, but three of Florida’s four have blown past the mark. Three of the last five meetings between these two have been way, way under.

3. Hawaii at Nevada

LINE: Hawaii -3.5, o/u: 62.5
OVER/UNDER PICK: Under

The Nevada offense really, really isn’t working. Even going against high-powered Toledo and Washington State offenses, no Wolf Pack game so far has gotten to 62.

Hawaii’s offense hasn’t scored more than 23 points in any of the last three games. The defense won’t melt down against Nevada like it did against Colorado State or UCLA. This should be more like the 28-21 Rainbow Warrior loss at Wyoming two weeks ago.

2. Washington State at Oregon

LINE: Washington State -2.5, o/u: 60.5
OVER/UNDER PICK: Over

Really? You’re scared off by Oregon starting quarterback Justin Herbert being out? Whatever … the point total is an insult.

These two teams have combined to absolutely annihilate the 60.5 point mark over seven of their last eight meetings, and even the 2009 game – a 52-6 Oregon win – almost got there.

All five Oregon games so far have easily gone past the 60.5 total.

1. Louisiana at Idaho

LINE: Idaho -5.5, o/u: 62
OVER/UNDER PICK: Over

62?

In Louisiana-Lafayette’s four games so far, it gave up 48 to SE Louisiana, 66 to Tulsa, 45 to Texas A&M and 56 in the wild shootout to ULM. The lowest-scoring Ragin’ Cajun game so far this year was the 45-21 loss to the Aggies – and that got to 66.

Idaho, though, hasn’t gone off yet. Only one of its games so far has gone past 62, but the loss to UNLV got to 60.

Go ahead and take the chance that this isn’t the week the ULL defense doesn’t turn into Alabama.
