What’s Going To Happen
Relative neighbors, the two schools are just 50 miles apart. They’re competing for the attention of the area – at least the football attention not fully devoted to Texas, A&M, and the other Power Fivers – and the same talent.
Unbeaten, UTSA has its Texas win to get jacked up about, shocking Baylor a few weeks ago. With a killer pass defense – No. 1 in the nation in pass efficiency D – and third in sacks, the Roadrunners are bringing a killer D. With a good enough running game, and a veteran QB in Dalton Sturm, this is a rising power in the Conference USA world.
Texas State is still trying to find any sort of offensive groove – it’s scoring just 12 points per game – but the defense has improved in a big way in the second year under Everett Withers.
But the lack of O will be a problem against the aggressive UTSA defensive front. The Roadrunners will force a few key turnovers and will control the clock for a 3-0 start going into a week off to prepare for the conference opener against Southern Miss.
