While coming back to beat Texas A&M was great, and getting through the Hawaii game was fine, this should show just what kind of a team UCLA really is.

It’s an early game for the Bruins on the road – 9:00 am according to their clocks – against a team with just enough talent to actually pull this off.

Memphis is either rested (on the positive side) or not seasoned (on the negative) after last week’s game against UCF was cancelled, but the program has done it before. Ole Miss was strong enough to beat Alabama in 2015, and it got whacked by the Tigers in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

With a road game at Stanford up next, can UCLA show that it’s just that good? Memphis might be just that good, too.

One Reason Why Memphis Will Win

Do the Bruins have anyone left on defense?

This wasn’t exactly a brick wall of a group to begin with, and this week it’ll be without linebackers Kenny Young and Josh Woods – at least Woods will be out for a half after a targeting call – along with safeties Jaleel Wadood and Adarius Pickett.

It’s only been one game, but the Memphis running game was fantastic against ULM taking off for over eight yards per carry with 319 yards and four scores. Darrell Henderson and Patrick Taylor tore off massive runs.

Sound familiar? Texas A&M had some success with the ground game for about 40 minutes, and Hawaii ran for 281 yards.

One Reason Why UCLA Will Win

How did Josh Rosen respond after his epic performance against the Aggies?

22-of-25 for 329 yards and five touchdowns against Hawaii.

The Bruins still won’t be able to run the ball and the defense will be a bit sketchy, but as long as No. 3 is slinging it, they’re in the game.

Memphis might have cranked up the ground game against ULM, but Riley Ferguson was awful – competing 10-of-25 passes for 97 yards with a pick – and the D had to hold on after a late Warhawk rally.

Again, UCLA isn’t going to be afraid to come back late if it has to.

What’s Going To Happen

Rosen might be amazing, but his offensive line has been a problem.

The pass protection hasn’t been great, the running game isn’t helping him out, and the defense that can’t stop the run is missing four starters, at least early on.

Memphis will run wild to start and build up a lead, and then UCLA will literally wake up. Rosen will crank up another comeback, but unlike the A&M game, he’ll fall just short as the Tigers grind out a few late drives with their ground attack.
