What’s Going To Happen
When we last saw Northern Illinois, it was coming up with a stunning performance to beat Nebraska, sending the Big Ten big boy into a tailspin.
The Huskies now want to make a statement in the Group of Five’s race for a New Year’s Six spot by beating the team that’s neck-and-neck with South Florida for the lead.
The Aztecs have been wonderful so far with impressive wins over Arizona State and Stanford, and starting out the Mountain West season with a tough performance at Air Force.
The offense has done a fantastic job of cranking out tough drives, owning the clock and controlling the tempo of the game. It’s not turning the ball over, it’s grinding out third down plays, and the defense is doing its part – it’s able to stay fresh.
Northern Illinois is strong at getting into the backfield and isn’t doing much to let decent passing games do much down the field, but it’s about to have a big problem dealing with SDSU RB Rashaad Penny and the long, sustained drives.
Time of possession will matter – NIU doesn’t hold on to the ball long enough.
