It’s not like this isn’t new territory for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes lost last year, and got to the College Football Playoff. They lost in 2014, and they went on to win the national title.

They can get past one little loss to a great Oklahoma team – but that’s it.

They have to run the table to get into the CFP, and with UNLV and Rutgers up after this, getting back into the swing of things shouldn’t be a problem. But any dreams of doing anything could go bye-bye if they can’t handle the Army offense.

The Black Knights can play little defense, and the offense continues to be as dangerous as any in college football when it gets rolling. In the first ever meeting between the two historic programs, Army can make some history of its own if they can get hot and pull off the shocker.

One Reason Why Ohio State Will Win

Can the run defense handle the Army option?

This could be a bad, bad, bad matchup for the Black Knights, and not just because OSU is loaded with NFL talents and Army is full of future true leaders of America.

Stopping the option starts with holding firm up the middle, and no one – Indiana and Oklahoma failed – to run up the middle. Forget about getting on the outside, too, against these OSU defensive ends.

So where can the Army ground game go?

IU and OU will come up with huge days on the ground as the season goes on, and they were able to combine for 121 rushing yards against the Buckeyes. However …

One Reason Why Army Will Win

Beating the Army offense requires focus, discipline, and everyone doing everything right on down after defensive down.

Ohio State just might be a wee but off after everything that happened against the Sooners.

Fortunately for the Buckeyes, they have the speed to simulate just how quick this Army attack is, but seeing this thing in live action is a whole other problem.

But Army is more than just the nation’s No. 2 ground attack. The defense get get into the backfield – with five sacks so far and a run defense that allowed under 100 yards per game – and just enough of a rotation to keep all of the parts fresh.

What’s Going To Happen

How did Ohio State do after losing to Penn State last season? It struggled against Northwestern in a 24-20 win. How about after losing to Virginia Tech in 2014? 66-0 over Kent State, as a part of four straight games with 50 points or more.

Army’s offense will work early on, but the Buckeyes will start to catch up to it as the game will go on. In the second half, the Ohio State speed and talent offensively will take over.

J.T. Barrett needs a sharp performance, but it won’t be exactly what Buckeye fans might like. Army’s defense is good enough to keep OSU from going ballistic.
