Can Notre Dame keep this from snowballing?

That was the question and concern posed to Irish head coach Brian Kelly after the tough loss to Georgia, but that’s a great Bulldog squad, Notre Dame played well in a 20-19 fight, and this looks like a different team in a different year.

But lose to Boston College, and all of the goodwill and positive vibes go away.

The Eagles barely got by Northern Illinois to start the season and got ripped up by Wake Forest to follow. Now, head coach Steve Addazio could use a good win over a big team to get the program back and rolling again, but again, Notre Dame is better.

It’s hot seat time for both coaches. The pressure is on.

One Reason Why Notre Dame Will Win

The Boston College offense isn’t working yet.

Wake Forest might have a terrific defense, but the Eagles had problems on their own with the running game and had a big problem with turnovers.

What’s Boston College football? Run well, play great D, don’t turn the ball over, do everything right. But the Eagles are 122nd in the nation in turnover margin, the passing game is painfully inefficient, and the running game is averaging just 145 yards per game.

If Notre Dame’s defensive front can hold Georgia stars Nick Chubb and Sony Michel in check, can BC start running the ball? Nope.

One Reason Why Boston College Will Win

Can BC get its run defense swagger back?

Wake Forest won on takeaways while capitalizing on every big chance, but it couldn’t run the ball at all when QB John Wolford wasn’t taking off. Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush should have a big day on the ground, but Josh Adams is coming off a rough day being held to 53 yards by the Bulldogs.

The Irish offense managed just 1.5 yards per carry in the loss.

While the Eagles want to increase the tempo of the offense, if the defense can hold its own, and if Anthony Brown can improve on an awful performance against Wake Forest, this might get into the fourth quarter with the game still on the line.

What’s Going To Happen

No snowball effect here – the Irish will show just how good they really are.

Wimbush will take off for a big day, the Irish running game will take control early, and the defense will play at another level with three takeaways turning the game into a breeze in the second half.

Boston College will make this interesting for about a quarter, but the offense will keep on sputtering.
