One of the hot teams coming into the season, this was supposed to be when NC State was going to come off a big win over South Carolina and be ready to go on a run.

But one thing got in the way – the Wolfpack forgot to win.

The Wolfpack doubled the USC offensive output, controlled the game for long stretches, and stuffed everything the Gamecock running game tried to do – and lost.

Meanwhile, Marshall managed to get by a tough, dangerous game against Miami University, doing a nice job of holding firm defensively when it had to, but struggled offensively.

Win, though, and the Thundering Herd will be back. Lose, and NC State goes from being the it team, to being in big, big trouble.

One Reason Why Marshall Will Win

Marshall didn’t get much going offensively, couldn’t run the ball, and struggled against a good quarterback. And yet it still managed to win, anyway.

Sound familiar?

South Carolina was able to pull off the win over NC State with a kickoff return for a score, timely D, and two key takeaways. Marshall was able to win with a big pick six and two kickoff returns for touchdowns.

The Wolfpack owned the time of possession, did everything right, and lost. Miami owned the time of possession, did a lot of things right, and lost. Herd QB Chase Litton threw for 208 yards and had a strong performance, but to win, it’ll take everything else to work, too.

One Reason Why NC State Will Win

Just do that again, and everything will be fine.

Ryan Finley threw 64 times for 415 yards and two scores, and while the running game wasn’t great, it was okay enough at times.

Marshall’s offense went nowhere for long stretches of time against the RedHawks, and it’s not going to run the ball a lick not he Wolfpack D.

Get to Litton, and the Herd offense will be stuck.

What’s Going To Happen

NC State will come up with the same type of offensive performance, and it’ll do the job on the defensive front, only this time it’ll come up with the win.

And it’ll be emphatic.

It won’t take away the South Carolina loss, but the Wolfpack will look like they’re supposed to.
