Alright, LSU. Soon it’ll be time to pick it back up again and look more like the LSU we all know and love.

Did the world overreact and overrate the 27-0 win over BYU in the opener? Absolutely, especially after rate Tigers were walloped by Mississippi State and struggled against Syracuse.

But there’s no resting or relaxing, with three road games in the next four dates after this, including trips to Florida and Alabama.

And there’s this Troy team to deal with, too.

The Trojans haven’t exploded like they were supposed to over the first four weeks of the season, but the’ve still managed to go 3-1 with the Sun Belt world coming up next.

If LSU doesn’t bring the effort, Troy’s defense might take care of the rest.

One Reason Why Troy Will Win

For years, a slight breeze would knock over the Troy run defense. It hasn’t faced a powerful team like LSU, but it’s still just giving up 96 rushing yards per game and doing a nice job of constantly getting into the backfield.

With Derrius Guice hurting, the LSU running game has underwhelmed, running for just 133 yards against Mississippi State and being held to under four yards per carry against Syracuse.

It’s a group effort for the Troy defense that’s fantastic at swarming around the ball. Boise State – with its 147 yards – is the only team to hit the 100-yard mark so far. LSU will get there, but it’s not going to blow up.

One Reason Why LSU Will Win

The Troy running game is about to come to a dead stop.

It’s been fine against the mediocre teams, but it got crushed by the Boise State defensive front to kick things off.

Star RB Jordan Chunn has been okay over the last few weeks, but now he has to deal with an LSU defensive front that appears to be past the problems against Mississippi State.

Brandon Silvers and the Troy passing game were just fine last week against Akron, but this isn’t the explosive offense of last year. With Chunn likely not getting rolling early, the LSU defense should be able to tee off. However …

What’s Going To Happen

It’s been a rocky time for the normally great LSU defense. Syracuse was able to throw well against it, Mississippi State was able to run without a problem, and that aura of dominance isn’t there.

Troy’s defense will keep this close throughout, but this is the week LSU starts to look the part again defensively.

The Tiger offense might not be anything special, but it’ll be efficient enough to get out to an early lead, and the D – especially on third downs – will take care of the rest.
