After a blowout tune-up against Central Arkansas, Kansas State gets another light scrimmage before having to go on the road to deal with a dangerous Vanderbilt team. And then it’s all about the Big 12 schedule.
The Wildcats were unstoppable last week, but the defense could still use some work, especially at linebacker after losing so much talent off of last year’s solid D.
Charlotte needs to come up with something positive, taking the paycheck to go to Manhattan after getting blown out by Eastern Michigan.
One Reason Why Charlotte Will Win
The running game has to work from the start to take Kansas State out of its rhythm.
For all the positives last week, Kansas State couldn’t handle Carlos Blackman, who ran for 114 of UCA’s 223 rushing yards – and the passing game wasn’t bad, either.
It wasn’t the sharpest performance by the Wildcat D in an unwildcat-like performance overall. K-State lives on time of possession, but it only had the ball for just under 23 minutes.
The defense came up with three takeaways, and the running game did its job, but now it’s up to Charlotte to open up the offense – but without the mistakes the Bears made.
One Reason Why Kansas State Will Win
Jesse Ertz and the K-State offense were finely tuned from the start.
It’s one of the rare times Kansas State will lead the nation in a passing stat – Ertz averaged close to 21 yards per throw, needing just ten passes to bomb away for 333 yards against UCA.
It was exactly what the team needed.
The Wildcats can run the ball without a problem, but it needed to work on airing it out a bit – and that’s what Ertz did with home run after home run after home run.
Charlotte couldn’t handle Eastern Michigan’s passing game. It doesn’t have the defense to deal with anything the Wildcats will try.
What’s Going To Happen
Kansas State will call its shot.
Charlotte QB Hasaan Klugh will be bottled up – he’s among the most dangerous runners on the field – and nothing else will work.
This will be when the Wildcat defense gets its groove back.
